Say hello to Ernie, the world famous Chicago Pizza Hound! He lives in the Logan Square neighborhood of the city and he LOVES pizza. So does his dad. That’s me. But I can’t find good pizza on my own. I need the Pizza Hound’s nose and houndin’ skills. Over the last few months, Ernie has led us to some of the most exciting pizza joints in almost every corner of Chicagoland, a paradise of old school Mom & Pop establishments. Along the way, we’ve learned a lot about many of the communities within the region. And each week the hound sniffs out another delicious pie for us to sample.
Here are a few photos of the pizza houndin’ champion!
Ernie and I started riding together to find pizza over a year ago when his mom was out of town. I wanted to visit the Chicago’s Southeast Side and Ernie went along for the ride. We got hungry…really hungry…and lo and behold the hound found us a fabulous thin crust pizza from Pudgy’s in Hegewisch. It was such a great trip that he and I have made hunting pizzas a regular thing. Sausage and pepperoni are our favorite toppings, and the hound likes to stick to those choices because he can’t have things like onions and garlic. Even cheese can hurt his stomach, so he mostly munches on crust and sauce! We’ve tasted pizza from so many different places, with Pequod’s being our family favorite for a long time, but there are so many others we love–and even more we can’t wait to discover!
